When a doggo becomes a mother, they are just like hoomans who can’t wait to take care of their babies. They would nurse them and make sure that they are happy and healthy, and they become the most protective dogs when it comes to their pups.
Poppy looked so happy when she was pregnant with ten puppers. At that time, she was taken in by Ruff Start Rescue and was fostered by Lexi Johnson, one of the volunteers from the shelter. Her foster mom took really good care of her until it was time for her to give birth.
As Lexi was busy taking care of all the pups throughout the night, something unexpected happened. Just a few hours after the last pup was born, Poppy passed away. The poor puppies were left without a mom, and Lexi was so heartbroken for losing her foster dog.
Two weeks after, Lexi was introduced to a mama dog from a shelter called Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. The doggo named Pepper recently gave birth but lost all of her puppies. She was so depressed about not being a mom that they wanted to do something to help her.
So Lexi brought in Pepper to meet Poppy’s babies. She slowly introduced them to her one by one, and within minutes, they were able to latch on to her. Pepper didn’t seem to mind that they weren’t her own pups. All she wanted was to be a mother to these tiny doggos.
Pepper loves the puppies so much that she never left their side. It took her a few days before she could even get up to go to the bathroom because she was that clingy to the pups. Whenever other people would come and visit them, she quickly gets worried when one of the puppies leaves the room.
Poppy’s puppers gave Pepper another chance to become the mama doggo that she always wanted to be. And although she had to go through so much, somewhere out there in doggy heaven, Poppy is taking care of Pepper’s babies as well.
